Carlsberg Mt Everest 20 May 2011
Heading to Mt Everest as part of the Carlsberg “Do the right thing” campaign!
Mount Everest, also known locally as Sagarmatha or Chomolungma, is the highest summit in the world. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is located in the Himalayan range on the border between Nepal and Tibet. Ever since the first attempts to scale the mountain in the early 1920s, Mount Everest has inspired and attracted people from all over the world. The enormous increase in visitors to the Everest region in recent decades has brought serious strains and severe negative effects on the sensitive environment of Mt. Everest itself as well as along the many popular trails of Sagarmatha/Everest National Park.
How you might ask, do Carlsberg has got to do with Mt Everest.
With Carlsberg ‘Doing the Right Thing’ campaign, it has looked upon Mt Everest, one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites, to be the start of it’s mission to do right. Carlsberg embarked on a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme to clean up Mt Everest, sending five “Heroes”to participant in this program.
Embarking on this journey are Me, Wee Kiat, Samuel, June and Deva. With the launch of this campaign we each received our allowances for the equipments for the trip and count down to the days!
